i think that the whole theme of french mice who love food, and aid cooks is a recurrent--and possibly rustic--european fable.
disney constantly plagiarizes! take cinderella, for example: few people made a fuss when the movie came out, even though they neglected to credit "aschenputtel/aschenbrodel," "chernushka," "kari trestakk/traestak," "la gata cenerentola," OR "rhodopis!!!"

Um...the stories are similar, but not the same. "Anatole" was published in the '50s, so "Ratatouille" is merely a modern-day adaptation. Anatole wears a beret (despite the fact that his name might suggest Turkish origins), a chef coat, and scarf; he also rides a bike. Ratatouille lives in the modern world, and his mode of transportation is a hip pair of Heelys.

p.s. To the moron who wrote the above comment--stop acting like a pretentious jerk! Why display your vast, if unnecessary, knowledge of the roots of the "Cinderella" tale?(Who does that?) Your point is that Cinderella is a fable. What's a fable? I've never heard of that before. Please explain it to us dumb 'uns. We're "stupid" with two Os...geez.
By the way, smart guy, if you're going act all erudite, then at least learn to spell 'gatta' correctly.
Day.

Hey, Mel!
Just wanted to say that I searched online, and found that other people also made the Ratatouille-Anatole connection. Of all the ones I could find, yours was the first to report it. Way to be on the ball, and ahead of the curve!
